Pixar moves "Onward" with new original film

December 12, 2018

On the morning of Dec. 12, Disney/Pixar announced the title and date of their newest original feature animated film, “Onward.”

So far very little is known about the film, as the film announcement was posted on Twitter along with a short press release. Here is what we do know:

Pixar Animation Studio announced along with the title and date, that the film will star Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer. The film will be directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae – the team that brought “Monsters University" (2013) to life.

According to a tweet from Erik Davis, managing editor for Fandango and all-around film buff, a release states the film is “set in a suburban fantasy world... [and] introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there.” Director Scanlon says the film was inspired by his relationship with his own brother.

The film is scheduled to hit theater on March 6, 2020, and will have the honor of being Pixar’s first ever March release.
