The Disney Skyliner Gondolas make their debut!

February 19, 2019

All of us here at Rainbow Caverns are pumped for the future Disney Skyliner coming to Walt Disney World. Disney has stated fall 2019 as the opening of the system with no official opening date. However, construction is steadily progressing and they have begun to test the gondolas! WDW News Today posted many images of the testing on their site. According to their sources, the gondolas were mostly stationary and covered in tarps as to not damage the paint.

The Disney Skyliner system will give guests an additional mode of transportation on top of the bus, monorail, watercraft and Minnie Van services currently available at the Walt Disney World Resort. The Skyliner will allow guests to connect to the following locations: Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the future Disney’s Riviera Resort.

The gondolas will feature beloved characters from iconic Disney films and attractions. To name a few, Mickey and the gang will be soaring the skies along with characters from “Frozen” (2013), “Moana” (2016), “Peter Pan” (1953), “Ratatouille” (2007) and so much more! These gondolas are sure to make a great addition to the skies of the Walt Disney World Resort.

As confirmed by Disney, these gondolas will not have air conditioning. However, the gondolas will allow for cross-ventilation ensuring sufficient cooling. The gondolas also have darkened and reflective windows to reduce the amount of sunlight heating the interior.

Walt Disney World has yet to give an official opening date for the Skyliner. However, Disney’s Riviera Resort is currently accepting reservations for stays beginning in December 2019. This resort will be home to one of the main Skyliner stations, which makes it safe to assume the Skyliner will likely open along with the resort or soon after. Hopefully, the Skyliner will be operational by mid-to-late December, but stay tuned with us for updates as construction progresses!
