Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World just celebrated its 30th birthday and has a whole bunch of new presents to share! As you probably know, Hollywood Studios has been more of a construction land than a theme park for the last few years, but the end is near! The park is gaining many new experiences this summer and seeing a lot of changes. Here is our break down of what you can look forward to at Hollywood Studios:
Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy | © Walt Disney World
Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy debuted last month in the Sunset Showcase theater. This 10-minute show transports guests into the world of Cars (2006) hosted by the king of speed himself, Lightning McQueen. With the help of his friends like Mater and Cruz Ramirez, guests will learn how to become Piston Cup champion-worthy racers. Kachow!

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is currently under construction in the Chinese Theater, the old site of The Great Movie Ride (RIP). The attraction was originally set to open this fall, but now has been pushed to (spring?) 2020. This ride will take guests into the cartoon world of Mickey and the gang using new innovative technology brought to us by the amazing Imagineering department. Disney has just unveiled the new marquee which will be featured on the outside of the theater. The neon sign features Mickey and Minnie in the design of the current cartoons. A new nighttime show, The Wonderful World of Animation, just debuted the night of Hollywood Studios’ 30th anniversary. The show begins in black-and-white during “Mickey’s Gala Premiere” (1933) and then transforms into color to celebrate other Disney animated classics such as “Fantasia” (1940), “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937), your Pixar favorites and more. This show performs before the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks show each night at the Chinese Theater.

Last summer, we saw the debut of Toy Story Land, which shrinks guests to the size of the toy and allows them to play in Andy’s backyard. This land quickly grew as a favorite of Hollywood Studios visitors and is already receiving a new update! Andy has just created a new rodeo arena inspired table-service restaurant featuring all of your favorite “Toy Story” (1995) characters. The Roundup Rodeo BBQ restaurant will be full of playful details, like Jessie riding on the back of a Trixie pull-toy. There is no word of when we can expect the rodeo to arrive in Toy Story Land, but stay tuned with us for updates.

Disney also unveiled the new logo for the park which features BB-8, Mickey Mouse and Woody. This is in reference to what will be the main attractions of the park--Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Let us know your thoughts down below on the new logo (personally, at first glance I didn’t love it, but it has grown on me)!
Of course, we have all been the most excited for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge which arrives Aug. 29. There have been no further updates on Walt Disney World’s version of the land at this time; however, we do know that there will be no reservations necessary to get into the land. Stay tuned with us for any updates in the future.
The new era of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is finally in motion and we are so excited to see what else is in store! Let us know what you are most excited for!
